Intercultural Development Inventory

Introduction to the Intercultural Development Inventory

As an introduction, the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) assesses intercultural competence – the capability to shift cultural perspective and appropriately adapt behavior to cultural difference and commonalities. The IDI consists of a series of statements that individuals respond to, indicating their level of agreement with each statement. A comprehensive Individual Profile Report describing the individual’s ability to shift perspectives and appropriately adapt behaviors is generated by the IDI after the assessment is completed, and an Individual Development Plan (IDP) is developed to help the individual develop their cultural competence further.
